Music, Movie, Writing, and Arts Projects supported by Jason Webb
As well as writing books and songs, I'm also very interested in other people who are taking the opportunity to express themselves creatively. Often, this is a difficult and expensive thing to do, so I'm very excited that the internet has led to sites like Pledge Music and Kickstarter that make it easier for people to find the funding that they need to create music, film & movies, books, and art outside of tightly controlled corporate industries.
These sites are also great for the fans though, as, in return for your support, you can receive exclusive offers such as signed copies of the completed CDs or DVDs and even your name in the credits of an album or at the end of a feature film.
On this page, I want to list some of the projects that I've found on those sites that have particularly appealed to me. Sadly, it's not always possible to financially support every project that takes your fancy, and so, unfortunately, some projects never reach the financial target that they need to get them off the ground. However, every little bit helps, so please check them out and if you can spare a little bit of your hard-earned cash, help them reach their funding goal.
The good thing about both Pledge Music and Kickstarter is that money donated is only taken off backers if and when a project reaches 100% of its funding target. Therefore, there's no risk to you if you back a project that fails to raise enough money, you won't be charged for it.
NOTE: The projects listed on this page are not my projects. They are the work of others and I have no control over them. I am just listing them here because they are interesting projects that I would like to see make it through to completion. Also, just because I'm listing a project on this page, doesn't necessarily mean that I have financially contributed to it. Much as I'd like to help every good project that I see, I'm a "struggling artisté" myself and so never seem to have enough money to spread around, but I do give them all my moral support.

Blind imagines a parallel-universe version of Japan, which also suffered a nuclear crisis, but was less lucky than its real world counterpart. It's a place where fallout readings are a part of the weather forecast and gas masks are as ubiquitous as black suits and Gucci bags.
To quote the films makers: "Even as we ready this project, Tokyo is still being rocked by aftershocks. At the same time the news from Fukushima reminds us that Japan's coastline is peppered with some 54 nuclear reactors sitting on what is basically a heaving fault-line. While this is not an advocacy piece, we hope the film will give people pause to consider the potential costs."

Steve Nguyen is seeking funding for the animated documentary/drama, HIBAKUSHA, about Kaz Suyeishi, an 84 year old woman who recalls her most vivid and horrific experiences as an 18-year-old Japanese American student during the morning of 6th August 1945, when the atomic bomb was dropped on her hometown of Hiroshima, Japan.
"Steve Nguyen (Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift, Jarhead) & Daisuke Suzuki (The Hills, American Dad!) are attached to direct the film and acclaimed animator & music video director Choz Belen (Far East Movement's "I Party" and Deep Foundation's "Sleep") is set to animate the film. Principal photography is expected to commence in February 2011 in the Los Angeles and New York area, and post production/illustrations will commence shortly afterwards.
This film is inspired to bring awareness to the Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombings in hopes that nothing like this will ever happen again and over time, show tremendous forgiveness after these terrible incidents occurred. This project will commemorate the 66th Anniversary of the bombings and is dedicated to the Association of Hiroshima & Nagasaki A-bomb Survivors."
The HIBAKUSHA Kickstarter project has now been successfully funded, but you can still follow the progress of the project at http://www.facebook.com/hibakusha.
Director Momo Lee Aoi is seeking funding for the Japanese/USA produced movie Von about two people brought together by the farewell concert of the Icelandic band Sigur Ros. The films lead actress is Japanese movie star Sayuri Oaymada.
In Momo Lee Aoi's own words:-
'I have this story in mind for quite a while, an isolated girl moves to a new place where she encounters language barrier and culture difference, She gradually finds herself live in an isolated world where only accompanied by her favorite music from Sigure Ros. But when she discovers her only comfort is about to go away like all of other things in her life, she's going to let them fall apart or get out her isolated net to expect some changes.
When I finished the first draft, I brought it to my potential leading actress, I still remember, in a little cafe, we talked about the story, the character, the motivation and big image of the film, where it leads to, my actress Sayuri said to me, "I think you are writing a story of me."
The more we film it, the more we all root for it, it was supposed to be a 10 mins short film, which we've done, but we all felt like we should let the story go further, let characters have more room to be developed.'
The Von Kickstarter project has now been successfully funded, but you can still head over to the Von Kickstarter page to see a video explaining the project in more detail.

Following her appearance on America's Got Talent, where she made it to the semi-finals, singer and songwriter Debra Romer is raising funds for her new EP of her own original songs.
In Debra's own words:-
"Working on my music has become my full time job. I'm pretty good at saving my money, but I don't have enough to produce this EP. As soon as the EP is finished I want to go out to LA and pursue a career in music. The better this album is the more likely it is that I will catch the eye of fans and labels. I'm taking a big risk but I feel like it will all pay off in the end!"
"Your kind donations will be used for:
Recording and producing the album
Printing the album
Shopping the album to labels
Gas to get me to LA
Beginning my music career!"

Singer and Songwriter Lauren O'Connell is seeking funding to record her new album.
In Lauren's own words:-
"I’m an independent artist and I fund everything myself. I’ve got some new songs I’m really excited about, and I want to make them sound as good as they do in my head. That costs money, especially if I don’t want to starve in the process."
"With your support I hope to be able to start recording in January 2011."
"If I reach my goal, I’ll be able to get into the studio without the help of a record label, maintain my sweet, sweet creative freedom, and hopefully do you all proud. If all goes well, I’ll get this album started in January and then you’ll be able to see me on tour next year. As you can imagine, I’m personally invested in this project, and I personally put together all of these pledge bundles to share with you."
This project has recently reached its funding target, but you can still pledge on it and get some great special goodies.

Yen-Lin Goh is seeking funds for Hard, Hard, Hard!, a musical performance piece based on a poem written in response to a poem written by the famous Chinese poet of Song dynasty, Lu You (1125-1210).
In her first doctoral recital on Feb. 28, 2010, Yen-Lin Goh performed Chinese American composer Ge Gan-ru's Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!, a melodrama for voice and toy ensemble written originally for Margaret Leng Tan, that was based on Lu You's poem. The success of the performance led to the idea of commissioning Ge to write a sequel to Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!, based on the poem written by Lu You's beloved ex-wife, Tang Wan, after she had read Lu’s poem.
In Yen-Lin Goh's own words:-
"This commissioned work will be featured in my next doctoral recital in Spring 2011. I am absolutely thrilled by the thought of working with an established composer like Ge Gan-ru. Regarded as “China's first avant-garde composer and one of the most original composers of his generation…” (New Grove Dictionary of Music), Ge has worked with famous artists such as Margaret Leng Tan and numerous renowned ensembles like the Kronos Quartet and Ying Quartet.
Ge was recently nominated as one of 'Fifteen Most Inspiring People in Classical Music.'
This commissioned work will not only further introduce Ge's inspiring music to the public, but it will also enhance my research into keyboard works using spoken text and works influenced by Chinese art form and musical materials. Like Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!, the sequel Hard, Hard, Hard! will give "voice" to Tang’s poem. Through sounds and song, nudges the audience to reminisce of this unforgettable 800 year-old Chinese romance with an absolutely refreshing touch."
Yen-Lin Goh's Kickstarter project has now been successfully funded, but you can still head over to her Kickstarter page to see a video explaining the project in more detail.
