If you've heard of Crystal Buddha, the punk rock band from London, England whose eventful trip to Japan is documented in the book CRYSTAL BUDDHA: Sake, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll in Tokyo by Jason Webb, you're probably wondering about the facts behind the story. Well, here's a copy of the front page of the Tokyo Daily News newspaper from Saturday 29th August that reports on the incident in the Kabukicho district of Shinjuku. Crime in Japan may not be as commonplace as in the UK, but for Jack Dempsey and friends, it was front page news.

ROCK BAND GANG HORROR

British rock band victims of Japanese crime gang

Tokyo police are investigating today after a British rock group were involved in a fight with a Japanese criminal gang who had targeted them.

The altercation took place at around Noon yesterday in the Golden Garden nightclub in the Kabukicho district of Shinjuku.

Tokyo's Serious Crimes Squad are investigating the incident and have yet to reveal any details. However, it is believed that at least three members of the rock group Crystal Buddha from London, England were involved along with four members of a local criminal gang.

At present, we do not know what casualties there were of the incident, although ambulances did attend the scene. The police will be holding a press conference later today after meeting with officials from the British Embassy.
