In the summer of 2009, Jack Dempsey took his band, Crystal Buddha, to Tokyo, Japan to record an album and play some gigs. The trip was supposed to have been the start of big things for the four London rockers. The kids in Tokyo loved British bands and he was sure that Crystal Buddha would win them over.
What Jack hadn't bargained on was attracting the attention of some of Tokyo's criminal element. However, before long, he'd discovered just how persistent these underworld operators could be when there was something they wanted.
The incidents that followed would take Jack from the streets of Shibuya to Shinjuku's notorious Kabukicho district as they threatened not only the the future of Crystal Buddha and the album, but also the safety of the band members themselves.
If you like Tokyo, Japan, Japanese culture, music, martial arts, or just a damn good story, then you'll like CRYSTAL BUDDHA: Sake, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll in Tokyo. Pick yourself up a copy today and rock your life.

CRYSTAL BUDDHA: Sake, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll in Tokyo is a combination of two of my favourite things: music and Japan. The story of a naive London rock band's trip to Tokyo, Japan to record an album and play a series of gigs was one that captivated me.
Tokyo has a fabulous live music scene around Shibuya, but also has a darker side in Shinjuku's notorious "adult entertainment" district of Kabukicho. This contrast of locations gives an interesting edge to the story of Crystal Buddha, and I hope that it'll strike a chord with those who live in or have visited Tokyo as well as those who haven't.
As I'm primarily based in the UK, my work on CRYSTAL BUDDHA: Sake, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll in Tokyo required me to travel to Tokyo to research some of the locations around Shinjuku and Shibuya. I also took that opportunity to write some of the book whilst fully immersed in the Tokyo atmosphere as I stared out over the Shinjuku skyline.
I really do hope that you enjoy reading CRYSTAL BUDDHA: Sake, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll in Tokyo as much as I enjoyed researching and writing it.

What is CRYSTAL BUDDHA: Sake, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll in Tokyo?
An urban fiction book? - Is it an urban fiction book? When I started writing it, I didn't know that I was going to be writing something that might fall into the urban fiction genre. All I knew was that I was writing a story about everyday, down-to-earth people that takes place in realistic locations in the city of Tokyo, Japan.
A contemporary realistic fiction book? - Is it a contemporary realistic novel? It's certainly contemporary fiction, that's for sure. Is it realistic fiction though? It's certainly a realistic setting, as I travelled to Tokyo to research some of the locations, so I suppose that does make it a realistic novel.
A novel about Japan? - There's certainly no doubt that it's a novel about Japan. It's a Tokyo story, but it's a Tokyo story from an English perspective. It's the story of five people who aren't residents of Japan trying their best to cope with their first trip to Tokyo. Unfortunately, this story of Tokyo life also provides a glimpse of Japanese crime.
A martial arts novel? - The lead character, Jack Dempsey, is a former amateur boxer turned rock singer who now only does kickboxing for pleasure, fitness, and to calm his mind. His adventures in Tokyo take him to a mixed martial arts event and also involve him in an altercation at a gym, a street fight, and a battle with some tough guys from Tokyo's criminal underworld. So, it's safe to say that there are martial arts in this novel.
A Japanese Yakuza story? - Just who does Jack Dempsey come up against? Is it the Japanese mafia, better known as the Yakuza, or is it some other element of Tokyo's criminal underworld? Are Jack and his band about to become part of their own Yakuza story?
An Amazon Kindle Book? - Whatever your reason for owning an Amazon Kindle ebook reader, Crystal Buddha is definitely a great story to read on it. The Amazon Kindle ebook version is also readable on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone (with the appropriate Amazon Kindle ereader software installed).
